Self Hypnosis
Once a reasonably deep level of trance has been achieved with the help of a qualified hypnotherapist, the art of self hypnosis may be acquired. The ability to practise self hypnosis can be an invaluable asset with a multitude of varied applications. Motivation, practice and persistence are necessary in order to perfect the technique.
Self hypnosis may be used, for example, to:
- Learn how to relax and release unnecessary tension
- Build self confidence
- Find solutions and achieve goals
- Make positive suggestions for self improvement
- Break unwanted habits
- Alter negative thought patterns
- Control weight
- Control pain
- Rehearse a future event e.g. public speaking
- Resolve trauma arising from an upsetting experience
- Enhance sporting performance
It is important to understand that self control is not relinquished when in trance. In fact, quite the reverse is true. During self hypnosis, the individual is aware at all times and perfectly able to think, reason and act when necessary and therefore able to come out of the trance state at will.
